MIND-BLOWING FACTS ABOUT JESUS’ DEATH AND RESURRECTION THAT YOU MIGHT NOT KNOW

Introduction by Rachel Boulos:

Old Testament Rules vs. New Testament: Understanding the tradition of Biblical Teachings

Many people wonder about the differences between Old Testament rules and those in the New Testament. The Old Testament presents laws primarily focused on the nation of Israel. In contrast, the New Testament introduces the concept of grace and emphasizes the teachings of Jesus as a fulfillment of those laws. This shift has significant implications for how we understand faith, sin and our relationship with God today. One cannot fully understand the New Testament unless you have an understanding of the Old Testament.

BEFORE THE CROSS  ON THE CROSS  AFTER THE CROSS

The Blood of Jesus Christ is the most powerful Force in the Universe”

~~   Andrew Murray, David Wilkerson, Charles Spurgeon

Here is My Dream:

My dream is to achieve or develop a global movement that encourages people to understand and live like their body is The Temple of God.

God dwells within the Temple (I Cor. 3:16,17; 6:17-20). God’s Temple is made up of Spirit/Spiritual, Soul/Emotions, Body/Physical. (I Thess. 5:23).    AMAZING.

Josh McDowell reveals to us that the DNA in one cell in the human body holds the equivalent of roughly 800 books of information. A typical human body has about a hundred trillion cells, each of which has a DNA strand that could be uncoiled to about three meters in length. Thus, if the DNA in one adult human was strung together, it would stretch from earth to the sun and back about 70 times.

“You are never too old to dream a new dream” ~~  C.S. Lewis

“Dream a dream so big that if God is not in it, it will fail."   ~ Hudson Taylor

“The Just shall live by faith." Martin Luther changed the world by applying this ingredient of faith from Hab. 2:4.

“Faith is a refusal to panic” ~~ Dr. Martyn-Lloyd Jones

“Behold, I will do something new, now it will spring forth!   Will you not be aware of it?  I* will even make a roadway in the wilderness, rivers in the desert."  Isaiah 43:19

A.W. Tozer’s Final Warning to the Church:

A. W. Tozer went Home to be with his Lord on May 12, 1963. Several days after his life on this earth ended, his final thoughts were published in an essay, entitled, “THE WANING AUTHORITY OF CHIRST IN THE CHURCHES."

When it is not in God’s time, you cannot force it; when it is in God’s time, you cannot stop it! have been studying this subject for over two years. The background and my personal conviction to this study has overwhelmed me with all that Jesus Christ has done for me. At times when I was studying, I became very emotional and stopped to take Communion.

I have given much attention to:

A.W. Tozer’s Final warning to the Church

The Vital importance of Living Today with a Biblical worldview

God’s promises to heal (divine intervention_ IF we obey His commands)

A Biblical worldview of the Word of God will change your life because “Your Body is the Temple of the Living God”. Amazing.

Healing is mentioned over 60 times in the Bible;  II Chron. 7:12-15 and Isaiah 53:4-6. These are two great examples of the healing power of God.

BEFORE THE CROSS

“The days are coming,” declares the Sovereign Lord, “when I will send a famine through the land, not a famine of food or a thirst for water, but a famine of hearing the words of the Lord.   People will stagger from sea to sea and wander from north to east.”  Amos 8:11-13

The spiritual authority that Jesus Christ gave to the Church by giving us the keys to spiritual authority (Matt. 13:11; 16:18,19;)

Jesus likely saw mass crucifixion as a child, well before He died on the Cross. The political climate was a tinderbox. By the time of Jesus, Judea had only been a Roman province for roughly 20 years. The political peace was a delicate 10 year collaboration between Pilate (the Roman governor) and Caiaphas, (the Jewish High Priest).

Not your ordinary donkey ride. The last week of Jesus’ life happened during Passover week. Tens of thousands of Jews made a pilgrimage once a year to Jerusalem and the city was bursting at the seams with people from all over the region when Jesus entered the city, which fulfilled the 500 year old prophecy of Zechariah 9:9.

Judas was greedy long before he betrayed Jesus. No spur of the moment decision here. As treasurer of the money box, Judas was secretly embezzling finances, stealing the disciples’ money and pocketing it for himself (John 12:6).  Possibly, Jesus was speaking directly to Judas when he said, “you cannot serve both God and money."

Jesus was severely anxious before He died.  He knew the gruesome way He was about to die and the full wrath of God (Matt. 27:45-47. He was so distressed he experienced hematidrosis, a rare medical condition that occurs under extreme physical and emotional stress, causing him to sweat blood (Luke 22:44).

Jesus probably spent His last night in a dungeon. After being accused, condemned and beaten, Jesus does not appear before Pilate until the next morning. So where did He hole up until dawn? A dungeon was discovered beneath the historical site of Caiaphas’ house. Scholars believe Jesus was likely chained in this damp, dark stone pit until morning.

Barabbas was a radical extremist. He likely belonged to a group known as the Zealots and had been arrested during an insurrection, probably for an assassination (Mark 15:7). The word ‘Barabbas’ is a generic term meaning, “son of a father." Pilate asked the mob if they’d rather release Jesus Barabbas or Jesus the Messiah. Jesus was condemned of the very crime of which Barabbas was guilty. The “son of a father” was freed while the Son of God was condemned. Jesus not only became the substitution for one sinner but for all mankind.

Jesus was verbally and physically abused. They threw a scarlet robe (signifying royalty) on Jesus as His blood was clotting, only to rip it back off.  Then Jesus was forced to walk two miles carrying a 100 lb. wooden crossbeam on his back to the execution site, while being verbally assaulted by the crowd (Mark 15:29-32).

The High Priest was corrupt. The high priesthood oversaw the Temple treasury, Temple police, religious rituals and the Jewish court. By the time of Jesus, the position was being bought with bribes by wealthy, elite Sadducees who agreed to be allies of Rome. WHAT DOES IT MEAN THAT JESUS IS OUR HIGH PRIEST?

The arrest and trial of Jesus were illegal. Jewish Law stated that trials could not be at night, during festivals and capital offense could not be reached in a day.

Peter’s denial was within earshot of Jesus. Peter watched Jesus’ trial in the nearby courtyard of the house. After being singled out three times for being a disciple, Peter disowns Jesus by calling down curses upon himself….And then Jesus turns and looks at him. Peter, mortified, breaks down sobbing.

ON THE CROSS

More Mind-Blowing Facts about Jesus’ Death and Resurrection you Might Not Know….“The Precious Blood of Jesus Christ is the Most Powerful Force in the Universe”    ~~   David Wilkerson, Andrew Murray, Charles Spurgeon

Jesus was crucified naked. All the paintings depicting Jesus in a loin cloth? Not quite. It was normal Roman custom to strip their prisoners completely naked before crucifixion, adding to their shame and humiliation. The book of Matthew states that Jesus was paraded through the streets in his garments but at the crucifixion site those garments were off and being divided among the roman soldiers.

Nails were driven into wrist and ankles, not hands and feet? Roman soldiers were master of crucifixion and went at great lengths to make it as painful and humiliating as possible. It was considered the “most wretched of deaths” and an “act of state terror”, reserved for insurrectionists and slaves with one main political message: don’t mess with us.

The weight of a fully grown man was suspended against gravity by 4-7 iron nails. Since death could take a few days, nails would have ripped clean through the soft tissues of hands and feet. Instead, the Romans pounded nails into the wrists, then secured the cross beam to the already vertical pole. The legs were bent at a 45 degree angle while the heels/ankles were nailed to either side. Scholars tell us that as more body weight was place on the nails, the legs eventually gave out, causing the shoulders, elbows and wrist to be pulled out of socket.

The thief on the cross was not a robber. The Greek word for ‘robber’ did not refer to an ordinary thief but an ‘insurrectionist’, someone who may have taken part in guerrilla warfare against Rome. They were men who hid daggers in their cloaks and killed anyone not part of the Romans resistance.   In short, they were terrorist. It is likely the two people crucified on either side of Jesus were co-conspirators with Barabbas. Jesus was assigned a criminal’s death, fulfilling prophecy.

Jesus actually died.  Some argue today that Jesus didn’t hang on the cross long enough to die, thereby making the resurrection null in void. But to 0assure he was dead, the soldiers thrust their sword into his side and out flowed blood and water – a medical condition called ‘pericardial and pleural effusion’.

The location and timing of the crucifixion were significant. According to Roman custom, Jesus was crucified outside the city gates along a well-traveled road making his death a public spectacle during the Passover (Matt. 26:2). The Passover festival celebrated God’s deliverance of the Israel from Egypt, death and slavery through the blood of a lamb. Jesus’ death fulfilled prophecy, full of Jewish symbolism. He died around 3 PM, the same Passover lambs were being slaughtered in the Temple (Ex. 12:5,6).

He is the “Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world”.  - John 1:29

Jesus was both the spotless red heifer sacrificed outside the camp to purify people from sin. - Num. 19:1-10

Four significant supernatural events occurred when Jesus died. One of these was a total solar eclipse the last three hours of Jesus ‘life (Matt. 27:45).  Jesus hung on the cross from 9AM to 3 PM.  In ancient times, total darkness was a sign of judgment, used as one of the plagues in Egypt (Ex. 10:21,22).

The veil of the temple, also known as the Temple Curtain, holds significant theological and symbolic importance in the Biblical narrative. It was a large, ornate curtain that separated the Holy Place from the Most Holy Place, or the Holy of Holies, within the Temple in Jerusalem. This veil is mentioned in several key biblical passages and is central to understanding the relationship between God and humanity, particularly in the context of the New Testament.

What is the meaning of those who were raised to life at Jesus’ death? (Matt. 27:52,53) What was the Biblical role of the high priest? The high priest was the supreme religious leader of the Israelites. The office of the high priest was hereditary and was traced from Aaron, the brother of Moses, of the Levite tribe (Ex. 28:1; Num. 18:7). The high priest had to be ‘whole’ physically (without any physical defects) and holy in his conduct (Lev. 21:6-8).

What is the Day of Atonement?  The Day of Atonement (Lev. 23:27,28) also known as Yom Kippur, was the most solemn holy day of all the Israelite feasts and festivals, occurring once a year on the tenth day of Tishri, the seventh month of the Hebrew calendar. On that day, the High Priest was to perform elaborate rituals to atone for the sins of the people.  Described in Leviticus 16:1-34 the atonement ritual began with Aaron or subsequent high priests of Israel, coming into the Holy of Holies.

This is an amazing truth. In the Old Testament, the word ‘atonement’ is mentioned over 80 times and in Hebrew means ‘to appease or to forgive.'  In the New Testament, because of what Jesus Christ did for us, this is astonishing (Romans 5:11).

The Lord will not hear our prayers if we have sin in our heart.

Prayer of Repentance   (Yom Kippur)

Hear our prayer. We have sinned before you  Have compassion on us and upon our children    Help us bring an end to pestilence, war and famine      Cause all hate and oppression to vanish from the earth.  Inscribe us for blessing in the Book of Life  Let the New Year be a good one for us.

We have revolted; we have blasphemed; we have rebelled, we have committed iniquity; we have transgressed; we have oppressed; we have been stiff-necked; we have acted wickedly;’ we have dealt corruptly; we have committed abomination; we have gone astray; we have led others astray.

“THE PRECIOUS BLOOD OF CHRIST”  I Peter 1:19

The Blood of Jesus Christ is the most powerful force in the entire universe. JESUS PAID IT ALL

By His stripes, we are healed – salvation – Isaiah 53:4-6

King Hezekiah prayed for physical healing and God healed the people after Passover -  II Chronicles 30:18-20

God will heal our land IF we obey HIS Word.   II Chron. 7:12-15

“to heal” means ‘divine intervention, to make healthful’.  'Healing’ is mentioned 60 times in the Bible, all with the same meaning.  God is a healing God.

Through the blood of Jesus Christ we have healing, deliverance from worry, depression, anxiety and any other issue but most importantly, we have been give the spiritual authority to advance the Kingdom of god, for HIS glory, because you are the Temple of the Loving God." I Cor. 3:16,17;  6:17-20

ISAIAH CHAPTER 53.  Many people believe this is the most important chapter in the Old Testament.

AFTER THE CROSS

“The precious blood of Jesus Christ is the most powerful force in the Universe.”  ~~  David Wilkerson, Andrew Murray and Charles Spurgeon

Jesus’ burial was unusual. “Most crucified people were not formally buried, but left on a rubbish dump to be eaten by wild dogs and hyenas. The fact that Jesus was burned after death was a big deal. Joseph of Arimathea had to act fast and personally appeal to Pilate for the body.

The men who buried Jesus belonged to the group that condemned him. The Bible tells us that Nicodemus (a Pharisee) and Joseph of Armathea (a Sadducee) quickly buried Jesus before the Sabbath. They both belonged to the Sanhedrin, the secret night council that condemned Jesus, even though they secretly believed in Jesus and had disagreed with the decision (John 19:38-42).

The timing of the resurrection was significant. During the festival, the Passover lambs were sacrificed on the 14th day of the month. Two days later, the Jews celebrated the Feast of First Fruits, that they would experience God’s redemption and be witnesses to the world. In the Jewish calendar, a new day begins when the sun sets, not when it rises.

This means that when Jesus arose on the third day, it was the same day as the First Fruits – “Christ has been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who have fallen asleep (I Cor. 15:20-23)."  The resurrection proves Jesus’ victory over sin and death; those who believe in him have been redeemed and will also be resurrected when He returns  (Dan. 12:2).

What was the Feast of First fruits? The Feast of First fruits was a festival commanded by the Lord that took place within the Passover celebration.  One of seven feats of the Lord, the Feats of First fruits was celebrated in the Jewish month Nisan (roughly late March to early April). The Feast of First fruits served as reminder to the Israelites of God’s provision in the Promised Land. Ultimately, the Israelites were to acknowledge that God had rescued them from slavery in Egypt and provided them a place to live and grow crops (Deut. 26:1-11).

33 Things the Holy Spirit will do for you to produce first fruits for the Lord.

“Do not grieve (to distress; to make heavy; to make sorry), the Holy Spirit”   Eph. 4:25-32

How do you grieve the Holy Spirit?

Obviously the Holy Spirit is a person with emotions. What are we to put away? What are we to put on?    Ephesians 4:25-32

The resurrection account was counter-cultural. There’s not enough time to cover all the resurrection details that prove its validity. The empty tomb was not disputed by anyone living at that time, not even the religious leaders who hated Jesus (Matt. 28:11-15).

Jesus’ burial clothes – John devotes much attention to Jesus’ burial clothes. He tells us that Nicodemus brought about a hundred pounds of myrrh and aloes to spice Jesus’ body and that He was bound in in linen wrappings. Also, John tells us that the soldiers divided Jesus’ garments into four parts, but did not divide His seamless tunic  (John 19:21 - 24).

Jesus Christ’s 12 post-resurrection appearances  - the application for each of us today.

This is absolutely awesome. Building a Christian community Biblically.  When Jesus was with His disciples before He ascended into Heaven on the 40th day after His resurrection, He commissions them to take His ‘word’ to all of the nations of the world; but to wait for the baptism of the Holy Spirit and the receipt of His power before their departure. After the Holy Spirit’s baptism, all of the disciples depart for different parts of the world and the growth of the Christian Church as the direct result of His disciples’ efforts. They all went out into the world knowing that many of them would be (and were) killed for their efforts. But today, approximately 2.4 billion out of total world population of over 8  billion now call themselves Christians.

COMMUNION - Communion, like so many essential points of Biblical doctrine, has fallen into the mire of tradition. The Lord’s Table is the only Biblical celebration in the New Testament. Consider our preparation for Christmas….Dozens, if not, hundreds of hours. Communion,  a scant 10-15 minutes once a month in most churches, with little knowledge of what we are doing. Read: I Cor. 11:17-34 (full teaching posted on www.solomonsporchteaching.com )

WHATEVER HAPPENED TO REPENTANCE?  “You rarely hear the word mentioned in most churches today – even in Baptist, Pentecostal or Evangelical circles.  Pastors nowadays seldom call for their congregations to sorrow over sin – to mourn and grieve over wounding Christ by their wickedness.”    ~~   David Wilkerson

“Only 10% of churches today are preaching about repentance or sin” ~~  Barna research

Human repentance and obedience can change the mind of God. This is borne out in the Story of Jonah. God decided to destroy Nineveh, which was the largest city in the world in that day with a population of 120,000, because Nineveh was a very wicked city but also a successful, wealthy banking city. Nineveh today is Mosul, Iraq with a population of 660,000 people.  God called Jonah, who was a Jew, to go and preach repentance to Nineveh.

HOW SHALL WE THEN LIVE TODAY?

Action Plan – Putting the Word of God to work.  14 Bible instructions on ‘how to live Biblically today.' Bible sales are booming and at an all-time high because people are looking for meaning in life.

Why Does God Allow Bad Things to Happen to Good People? “Your Body is God’s Temple”  - the amazing life changing truth. God created you to be His Temple.

“Do you not know that you are the Temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you (I Cor. 3:16,17)."  We are now to present our bodies (Temple) as a living sacrifice to God (Romans 12:1,2).

God says,  “I WILL IF YOU WILL”. The word ‘if’ appears 1,637 times in the Bible. The word ‘if’ even today means someone has to make a decision.   And Old Testament example  is found in I Chron. 7:12-15.

IF I, God:

Send no rain

Send locusts

Send pestilence

God then says, “here is what I will do for you IF you, because you are called by my name to obey….do 4 things:

Humble yourselves

Pray

Seek my face

Repent

“I will heal your land” (divine intervention) – the promise of God

Why is Praising God Important? The Book of Psalms is the praise book of the Bible and it gives us hundreds of reasons why praise is important, as well as examples of how to give praise to God. In examining those reasons and example, one thing becomes clear.  “It is good to Praise the Lord and make music to Your name, O Most High…” Psalm 92:1.

Praise is a good thing. It means it is pleasant, valuable and morally excellent. Psalm 147:1 tells us that praise is beautiful and agreeable.

The idea behind God inhabiting the praises of His people could be that God’s throne – His dwelling place – was the tabernacle, the place where praise was continually offered to Him.  In Psalm 22, the Messiah in His suffering remembers the place and people of praise. He is not among those congregants but He expresses with confidence that their praises are appropriate. Even in the extremity of His distress, the Messiah trust that God is holy and worthy of praise.

Remember, that “Your Body is the Temple of God”.  David praised the Lord 7 times a day (Psalm 119:164).

HALLELUJAH which means Praise the Lord is the universal word of Praise.

WAITING ON THE Lord – Daily Living.  The definition of patience is hopeful, perseverance, endurance, continuous, waiting, to abide, under. Waiting is a tough assignment. Patience is a virtue that goes unappreciated in a fast-food, fast-car, fast-living generation. Ever find yourself standing in front of the microwave oven saying, ‘hurry up’? or pushing the elevator call button every five seconds while waiting for the elevator to arrive?

WAIT                    WAIT                         WAIT.

WHY DOES GOD USE EAGLES AS AN EXAMPLE OF HOW TO WAIT

“But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run and not be weary; and they shall walk and not faint.”   Isaiah 40:31

Ten facts about eagles:

Eagles mate for life

Eagles can fly as high as 10,000 feet

Eagles have keen eyesight, stronger than humans

Eagles fly into a storm, not away from it

Eagles perform courtship acrobatics for their mates

Eagle always return to the same nest every year

The male eagle helps the mother eagle in caring for the home:

Building the nest

Sitting on the eggs

Providing food

The wings of an eagle are stronger per pound than the wings of a modern day airplane.

An eagle can fly for 4 to 6 hours at 20-30 mph, without stopping. They do this to take advantage of the air currents.

When it’s time for the young eagles to leave the nest, the parents fly with the young on their wings and then while flying, flip them off. One or two things happens:

If they eaglet can fly, the parents let them go

If the eaglet cannot fly yet by themselves, the parents catch them and they try later

Why is Biblical Prophecy So Important Today? A Biblical Worldview has a radical effect on a person’s life.

Biblical prophecy is approximately 1/3 of the Bible. Rev. 1:3 tells us that we are blessed (happy) if we do 3 things:

Read it

Hear it

Obey it

Studies show that 52% of people today are living with a spirit of fear.

God did not promise days without pain, laughter without sorrow, or sun without rain. But he did promise strength for the day, comfort for the tears, and light for the way.

If God brings you to it, He will bring you through it:

The essence of life.
