Your Body is God's Temple

YOUR BODY IS GOD’S TEMPLE
THE AMAZING LIFE CHANGING TRUTH!
God created you to be His temple. “Do you not know that you are the Temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you.” I Cor. 3:16
Faith Based Ministry is now the # 1 podcast in the world. Joe Rogan is now # 2(Wall Street Journal).
Bible sales have nearly doubled since Covid. Why? Many people are very concerned about the future and they are living in fear (Bloomberg).
INTRODUCTION
Unlike Solomon’s Temple, which was made of brick and mortar, God formed each of us and knew us in our mother’s womb (Jer. 1:5). We are also told that we are fearfully and wonderfully made (Psa. 139:14). God also knows the number of hairs on his temple (Luke 12:7).
“Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a
prophet unto the nations.” Jer. 1:5
“I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; marvelous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.” Psa. 139:14
Here is how God created you as His temple.
“The DNA in one cell in the human body holds the equivalent of roughly 800 books of information. A typical human body has about one hundred
trillion cells, each of which has a DNA strand that could be uncoiled to about three meters in length. Thus, if the DNA in one adult human were
strung together it would stretch from Earth to the Sun and back about 70 times.” ~~ Josh MacDowell
Apostle Paul, in Colossians 1:24-27, wrote about this truth as the mystery that has been hidden from the ages and generations. Now uncovered for all is the riches of the magnificence of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.
“To recognize and receive the wondrous truth of being God’s Temple is the beginning of walking and living a supernatural life!” ~~ Michael Ellison
God created you in three parts. All three need daily nourishment.
Spiritual
Emotional
Physical
“And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God our whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming
of our Lord Jesus Christ”. I Thess. 5:23
PEACE WITH GOD
Here is an amazing Biblical truth: the Word ‘atonement’ is mentioned 130 times in the Old Testament but only once is it mentioned in the New Testament. ‘Atonement’ means ‘restoration to a Divine Favor” in the New Testament.
“And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement”. Romans 5:11
TWO WAYS TO THANK GOD FOR HIS LOVE TO US
WHAT DOES IT MEAN THAT God inhabits the praise of this people? Psalm 22:3
Scripture repeatedly affirms that individual believers are “the Temple of the living God” and “Temple of the Holy Spirit” where God’s presence dwells – I Cor. 6:16-20. The whole church is joined together and rises to become a Holy Temple in the Lord…. Built together to become a dwelling place in which “God lives by His spirit”, explains Paul in Eph. 2:21,22. The church fits together like “living stones” built into a “spiritual house” that offer “spiritual sacrifices” of praise.
HOW TO LIVE YOUR LIFE AS GOD’S TEMPLE
Do you want your Christian life to be effective and bear fruit? Put the Word of God to work. Follow the instructions in II Peter 1:2-9. Be diligent concerning God’s promises, exercise your faith to develop virtue, grow in knowledge, increase in self-control, be steadfast, practice Godliness and show Christian love to others. How can you improve in these areas as you go about your everyday activities and relationships?

We are made up in three parts, spiritual, emotional and physical; I Thess. 5:23 and all 3 require daily nourishment.
“To recognize and receive the wondrous truth of being God’s Temple is the beginning of walking and living a supernatural life”. ~~ Michael Ellison
When you live as God’s Temple, He will give you keys, which means ‘competent authority’. Matt. 16:18,19. There are 14 mysteries in the New Testament and the spiritual authority principle is the first one being taught. Amazing! Matt. 13:11
There are at least 33 things the Holy Spirit will do for you, because you are His Temple. He is the power behind the God-given spiritual authority. Imagine that the Holy Spirit will pray for you! Imagine the power of this!
Romans 8:26-28. However, it is very important to understand that the Holy Spirit desperately wants a relationship with us. Ephesians 4:23-32. And it is
important to remember that the Holy Spirit is part of the Trinity:
God the Father
God the son
God the Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit was sent by Jesus Christ in His last words on earth; Acts 1:7,8. Grace and faith are gifts from God; Romans 12:3. Do not ask God for more grace and faith – thank Him and praise Him for what HE is giving you and then follow Him. Peace is also a gift because Christ Jesus gave us His peace; John 14:27
Jesus promised to always be with us; His presence - Matt. 28:20
God has given us everything we need for life and Godliness; II Peter 1:3. Because of His Divine Power (dunamis, word for the Holy Spirit, meaning
miraculous power), God has given us all things we need to live Godly lives. We have the mind of Christ; I Cor. 2:16. Because we are the Temple of God, we can have true wisdom; I Cor. 2:6-16
We are given great and precious promises to live by. There are approximately 3500 - 5000 promises in the Word of God, some research indicates even more. This is the vital importance of having a Biblical worldview for all of life. Only 8% of Christians have a Biblical worldview and only 2% of them teach their children, according to Barna Research.
Virtue – moral goodness – went out from Jesus Christ and He healed a great multitude and cast our demons; Luke 6:17-19 Understanding that I am God’s Temple has radically changed my life.
1. Add to your faith – remember, faith is a gift
2. Virtue – moral goodness
3. Knowledge – discernment to fully perceive God’s Word; Psa. 119:11
4. Temperance – self control
5. Patience – perfects Christian character – James 1:2-9
6. Godliness – an attitude that is well pleasing to God
7. Brotherly love – love of people
8. Charity – agape love. “Now abideth faith, hope, charity… but the greatest
of these is charity”. I Cor. 13
The results of obedience to Almighty God that comes when you live life as the Temple of God:
“For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. But whoever does not have them is nearsighted and blind, forgetting that they have been cleansed from their past sins.” II Peter 1:8
“For if these things be in you and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. But he that lacketh these things is blind and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins”. II Peter 1:9
We are partakers of the divine nature. This is a mind blowing thought. Peter reminds us that we are partakers of the divine nature. II Peter 1:4 - ‘partakers’ in Greek means ‘fellowship’ or ‘sharing’ (koinonia).
There are 7 words that have the same meaning of Koinonia:
1. Partakers
2. Communion
3. Fellowship
4. Contribution
5. Distribution
6. Partner
7. Communication
Consider that all seven words are about our attitude to God and to other people. Peter is telling us, as a way to escape corruption, that is in the world through lust, which a strong desire to do anything against the Lord because you are HIS Temple!
“The Bible has all the answers we need if we would only read it and obey it”. ~~ President Ronald Reagan
Amos prophesied that in the Last Days there will be a famine of the Word of God; 8:11,12.
Repentance is the key to receive the fabulous promises of God.
As you live your life as the Temple of God, how important is repentance?
Consider that repentance was the theme of the first sermons preached by:
John the Baptist Matt. 3:2
Jesus Christ Matt. 4:17
Apostle Peter Acts 2:38
Repentance is the foundation of Christianity. Hebrews 6:1
How important is repentance?
“Without repentance there is no salvation but repentance does not end with salvation.”
~~ Dr. Martyn-Lloyd Jones
“A repentant attitude upon a life will bring God’s special blessing.”
~~ David Wilkerson
God says, “I WILL IF YOU WILL…”. The word ‘if’ is used over 1600 times.
The word ‘if’ is very interesting. It is one of the most important words in the Bible because it speaks directly to our responsibility to God. Most promises in the Bible have conditions and the word ‘if’ speaks to those conditions. Our responses to God’s commands affect our relationship with Him and determine our receiving from Him.
Jesus used the word ‘if’ all the time. Almost half of the occurrences in the New Testament are in the four Gospels. Jesus always put the word ‘if’ on man’s responsibility and never on God’s side. The following are some of the biggest‘ifs’ in the Word of God:
IF we do four things, God will heal (divine intervention) our land – II Chron. 7:13-15
Most exciting Scripture – John 15:11-17 – “IF” is used 5 times – ‘abide’ (to
dwell) – 8 times; 8 is the number of new beginnings (Noah)
There is no darkness in God if we obey these 5 things: I John 1:5-10
IF you do not forgive others, the Lord cannot forgive you. Matt. 6:14,15. Since your body is God’s Temple, the Lord cannot tolerate unconfessed sin.
God cannot hear your prayers if there is iniquity in your heart. But God will forgive so He can hear our prayers. Praise God – HE is holy and dwells in
the praises of HIS people. Ps. 22:3
The Story of King Hezekiah (Wall Street Journal was correct)
Hezekiah became king at 25 after his disobedient father Ahaz, who hated God, died. II Kings 16). King Hezekiah was called the greatest king ever. II Kings 18:1-9. This story is told in chapter 13 of my book, “Your Body is God’s Temple”. In all, the king made 25 key decisions which can apply to us today for revival. This is an incredible Biblical story on how God reacted when His people cared for the brick and mortar temple. The key point here is how much more important this principle is today given that we are now God’s Temple.
Major Decisions Made by the King:
The first thing Hezekiah did was to repair the Temple of God. II Chron. 29:3-11.
Application: the best way for us to begin to repair our bodies – God’s Temple – is to repent from sin (I John 1:5-10). There are five ‘ifs’ which means ‘our decision’. Hezekiah was a God-fearing man (II Chron. 29:2) God give us the same choice today – ‘choose you this day whom you will serve’. Joshua 24:14,15
Hezekiah encouraged his people to prepare for worship in the repaired temple with music and singing (II Chron. 29:12-31). We are to present our bodies as a living sacrifice (Romans 12:1,2). Praise of God is a New Testament sacrifice which is to be offered continually, being the fruit of our lips – giving thanks to His Name.
The people celebrated Passover with great joy, as we should in Communion.
I Cor. 11:17-34
Hezekiah restored the Passover which had not been celebrated in about 200 years.
The three steps of preparation for Passover were:
1. He purged idols from Jerusalem
2. Blood was sprinkled
3. Repentance of sin; II Chron. 30:1-4.
We celebrate Communion/Lord’s Table/Eucharist not with the blood of lambs but because of the blood and body of Jesus Christ whose spirit now dwells within us as His Temple. We also need to prepare for Communion. I Cor. 11:17-34
Hezekiah honoured and kept the Passover and here is what God did:
1. God forgave all who repented of their sin
2. God healed the people physically
3. There was a great time of worship/praise and joy
4. The Word of God was taught
5. The people were blessed and their prayers went right to Heaven
(II Chron. 30:15-27)
Dr. Martyn-Lloyd Jones and Charles Spurgeon have probably been the two most powerful preachers that we are aware of. Dr. Jones preached so honestly and forcefully that the secular media in Wales made this statement: “the preaching of Dr. Jones probably saved Wales from becoming the first Communist country in Europe."
CONCLUSION:
As I understand with my life experiences, living as God’s Temple, that the Lord responds to at least four major principles:
1. Repentance. God cannot hear our prayers if we do not repent nor can He have fellowship with us; Psa. 66:18-20; I John 1:5-10
2. Obedience demonstrates our faith and trust in God. “Obedience is better than sacrifice”. I Samuel 15:22
3. Faith. “Without faith, it is impossible to please God”. Hebrews 11:6
4. Praising the Lord, despite our problems. Why? “God dwells in the praises of His people.”. Psa. 22:3. DAVID TELLS US TO PRAISE GOD 7 TIMES A
DAY; Psalm 119:164.
A good way to do this is to simply say the word, HALLELUJAH! Why seven? Seven is the number of completion and is mentioned over 700 times. HALLELUJAH means to PRAISE THE LORD. It is the only word that I know that is pronounced the same in every language on earth today! AMAZING!!
COMMUNION
Communion, like so many essential points of Biblical doctrine, has fallen into the mire of tradition.
The Lord’s Table is the only Biblical celebration in the New Testament.
Consider our preparation for Christmas… dozens, if not, hundreds of hours.
COMMUNION – 10 – 15 minutes once a month in most churches with little knowledge of what we are doing.
Read: I Cor. 11:17-34
Principles we should consider about Communion:
1. Communion is the only New Testament Biblical celebration
2. Consider the time we take to prepare for Communion in contrast to Christmas, Anniversaries, Vacations
3. Consider the time of preparation – most churches spend 15 – 20 minutes once a month and in some cases, even less
4. Consider the Passover celebration which was the celebration of deliverance
from slavery. Egypt is a symbol of the world and sin in the OId Testament; last 7 days – Exodus 12
5. Consider when Solomon finished the temple, they had a 7 day celebration and the glory of the Lord filled the temple; II Chron. 7:1-11
6. Consider our reason for celebration; we are now joint heirs of God; Romans 8:12-17 and we are led the by Holy Spirit
7. Consider now our bodies become the new temple of the Holy Spirit; I Cor. 6:15-20
8. Consider our deliverance from sin and slavery through the precious blood of Jesus Christ; Rom. 6:20-23
What is the difference between a paycheck and a gift? You earn a paycheck, but you receive a gift. In Romans 6:23, Paul teaches that the payment, the unavoidable consequence we earned because of sin, is death. What a relief that God offers to every individual the gift – something we cannot earn – of eternal life in Jesus Christ. If you have received this gift, thank God for His generosity and grace! If you have not yet received God’s gift of eternal life, I encourage you to ask Him for it. He will gladly give it to you!
9. Consider the love of God. After Adam and Eve sinned God began a process of REDEMPTION. "Life point: Adam did what God told him not to do (Gen.3:1-6). As a result, Adam became a captive of Satan, who had lured him into going against God’s word. By listening to Satan instead of to God,
Adam surrendered to Satan the authority to rule the earth that God had originally given to man. Always listen to God and obey His Word."
The process always required the shedding of blood. The life is in the blood; Lev. 17:14 No blood means no life. Life is a spiritual substance but must have a physical carrier. Our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit; I Cor. 6:18-20
We are made up of three parts; body – soul - spirit; I Thess. 5:23
Do we really know who we are and the authority that we have in and through JESUS CHRIST?
“Life requires vast amounts of information… the key feature to life is information. Life, even the simplest of bacterial cells, req1uires vast amount f of
information to function. Cellular information is stored in DNA. The DNA in one cell in the human body holds the equivalent of roughly 8000 books of information. A typical human body has about 100 trillion cells, each of which has a DNA strand that could be uncoiled to about three meters in length. Thus, if the DNA in an adult human were strung together, it would stretch from earth to the sun and back around 70 times!” (Josh McDowell)
Psalm 139:13-16 “we are fearfully and wonderfully made”.
“fearfully” = reverence; to revere (Hebrew)
“wonderfully” = marvelous; distinguish; set apart
TEN BIBLICAL PRINCIPLES YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT GOD’S LOVE
OF CELEBRATION IN COMMUNION
1. REDEMPTION – Abraham and Isaac – Gen. 22. Abraham took his only son and was willing to sacrifice him. But the love of God intervened. However,
God did not spare His Son, Jesus Christ. Also, God provided a blood sacrifice for Abraham through a ram (the best of lambs), whose head was
stuck in a thicket; Gen. 22:13. Christ’s head was crowned in thorns.
Interesting this all happened on the third day of His journey; v. 4 Jesus rose the third day.
2. The only way Pharaoh would set the children of Israel free was through the death of all first born, including animals. Ex. 11
LIFE IS IN THE BLOOD
3. Before the event of the killing of the first born, God gave the Egyptians plenty of time and warning, with the plagues, to repent. Egypt had ten
gods and each plague attacked one of their gods. Interesting, the New Testament tells us that there were 10 attempts to kill Jesus. In each case,
deliverance came with the spilling of blood. Our God is still a God of love and does not want any to perish. II Peter 3:9,10
4. The Lord protected and saved people by the blood of the doorpost; Ex. 12:6, 7; is the Hebrew letter for life; worn as a necklace in Israel like we wear a cross.
Very interesting – Ex. 12:35-38 indicates that mixed multitude went with Israel and were included in the 600,000 men plus families. This means that
non-Israel people would have to believe in the God of Israel and had the Blood on the doorposts. Numbers 4 tells us these mixed peoples complained and wanted to go back to Israel as well. This story is another great example that Jesus Christ opens the door to all; II Peter 3:9
5. The Passover lamb had to be perfect and without blemish for the sacrificeand also be a male; Ex. 12:5
blemish = integrity, complete; perfect, without spot; whole; undefiled
The lambs for the sacrifice were bred, born and raised in Bethlehem, where the perfect lamb was born and now take away the sins of the world. John 1:29…. As prophesied in Isaiah 53:7. PRAISE THE LORD!
6. Why did the perfect lamb, Jesus Christ, ride a donkey into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday?
It was promised in Zech. 9:9,10
When a king rode on a donkey, it was a sign of peace; just like Abraham did in Gen. 22:3
When Jesus Christ comes back, He will ride on a white horse in judgement; Rev. 19:11-16
7. What gate did Jesus ride into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday? The Eastern Gate, which is now shut and has been for about 1500 years. There have
been many attempts to open it but all failed. Jesus Christ will return through this gate; Ezekiel 44:1-3. Even the Koran states this and this is
why the Muslims have a huge cemetery in front of the Easter Gate to keep Jesus out, because Jews cannot touch a dead body.
8. Why did Pilate wash his hands after releasing Jesus? Matt. 27:24 It was custom by the head of each household to wash his hands after
finding a sheep without blemish.
9. What time of the day did Jesus die? Mark 15:33,34… 3 p.m, our time.
The priests were offering daily sacrifices for sins from noon to 3 p.m. When Jesus said, “It is finished” John 19:30, that was the fulfillment of the
Biblical prophecy in Isaiah 53.
Finished = complete; discharge; to pay for (Greek)
The veil of the temple, which separated the Holy place form the Holies of Holies was torn from top to bottom so that all believers now have direct
access to God anytime, unlike the High Priest, once a year; Matt. 27:45-53 The veil was 4 inches thick; 30 feet wide and 60 feet long
10. Ravi Zacharias
Moses 630 laws
David reduced to 15
Isaiah reduced to 8
Micah reduced to 3…
Micah 6:8 “do justly, love mercy and walk humbly with God." A person’s character and behavior matter more to God than
gifts. Ps. 141
Jesus Christ reduced the law to 2; Mark 12:30,31;
1. Love – totally given over heart – very being
2. Soul – emotions
3. Mind – intellect
Matt.22:34-40… love others as you love yourself… all the prophets and law hang (as a door on a hinge) on these things.
“Redemption precedes justification and righteousness”
All of these principles is the reason that Paul is so detailed in giving us instruction for Communion. I Cor. 11:17-34
v. 17-22 conduct at the Communion Table
v. 23-26 institution of The Lord’s Supper
v. 27-34 examine yourself
“examine” = to test; to determine like testing metal”; means approval more than condemnation
v. 30 is one of the strongest verses on this subject.
If we do not TAKE TIME to examine ourselves, the consequences are very severe. WEAK = to be feeble in any sense; the word’ weak’ is used as impotent; diseased and sick in James 5:14. SICK IS used in Matt. 14:14 and other verses, as in physical illness.
SLEEP = to put to sleep; to slumber; dead – used in I Cor. 15:51; I Thess.4:14
YOU CAN TRUST HIM
“He’s the One who made us. It is He who made us and not we ourselves. The heavens declare the glory of God, and the firmament
shows His handiwork. No means of measure can define His limitless love and no farseeing telescope can bring into the visibility the coastline
of His shoreless supply. I’m telling you today…. You can trust Him.
No barrier can hinder Him from pouring out His blessing. He’s enduringly strong and he’s entirely sincere. He’s eternally steadfast and
He is immortally graceful. He’s empirically, powerfully and impartially merciful. He’s the greatest phenomenon that has ever crossed the
horizon of his world. He’s God’s Son. He’s the sinner’s Savior. He’s the centerpiece of civilization. I’m trying to tell you, Church …. You can
trust Him.
He does not have to call for help and you can’t confuse Him. He doesn’t need you and He doesn’t need me. He stands alone in the solitude of
Himself. He’s august and He’s unique. He’s unparalleled. He’s unprecedented. He’s supreme. He’s preeminent. He’s the loftiest idea
in literature. He’s the highest personality in philosophy. He’s the supreme problem of higher criticism. He’s the fundamental doctrine of
truthology. He’s the cardinal necessity of the spiritual religion. He’s the miracle of the age. He’s the superlative of everything good that you can
call Him… I’m trying to tell you that… you can trust Him.
He can satisfy all your needs and he can do it simultaneously. He supplies strength for the weak, and He’s available for the tempted and
the tried. He sympathizes and He sess. He guards and He guides. He heals the sick. He cleansed the leper. He forgives the sinners. He
discharges debtors. He delivers the captives. He defends the people. He blesses the young. He regard the aged. He rewards the diligent. He
beautifies the meek. I’m trying to tell you, Church… you can trust Him.
He’s the key to knowledge. He’s the wellspring of wisdom. He’s the doorway of deliverance. He’s the path of peace. He’s the roadway of
righteousness. The highway of holiness. He’s the gateway to glory….You can trust Him.
He’s the master of the mighty. He’s the capture of conquerors. He’s the head of heroes. He’s the leader of legislators. He’s the overseer of the
overcomers. He’s the Governor of the governors. He’s the Prince of princes. He’s the King of kings. He’s the Lord of lords…. You can trust
Him.
His office is manifold. His promise is sure. His life is matchless. His goodness is limitless. His mercy is everlasting. His love never changes.
His word is enough. His grace is sufficient. His reign is righteous. His yoke is easy. His burden is light. I wish I could describe Him to you.
He’s indescribable because He’s incomprehensible. He’s irresistible because he’s invincible. You can’t get him off your hand. You can’t get
Him off your mind. You can’t’ outlive Him, and you can’t live without Him. Pilate couldn’t stand it when he found out that he couldn’t stop
Him. Pilate couldn’t find any fault in Him and the witnesses couldn’t get their testimonies to agree and Herod couldn’t kill Him. There was
nobody before Him. They’ll be nobody after Him. He has no predecessor. He’ll have no successor. You can’t impeach Him and He’s
not going to resign…. You can trust Him.
He’s the Alpha and the Omega. The beginning and the end. The first and the last. He’s all things. He’s the giver of life. He’s the joy out of
every sorrow. He’s the light of every darkness. He’s the peace that passes all understanding. He’s the giver of every good and perfect gift…
you can trust Him.
There’s no God before Him. They’ll be no one after Him. He is the first. He is the last. He is preeminent. There is no other God” … You can trust
Him, Church. YOU CAN TRUST HIM!”

God did not promise days without pain, laughter without sorrow, or sun without rain. But he did promise strength for the day, comfort for the tears, and light for the way.
If God brings you to it, He will bring you through it:
The essence of life.
